The New Nissan 370Z – Press Pack

The new 370Z Coupe, 2009, represents the first change in depth from the reintroduction of the Z saga in 2003. Now its wheelbase is shorter, using lighter materials, equipment, a new more powerful engine and a new 7-speed automatic transmission with shift lever type cams. And for the first time in the history of the automobile, a car equipped with a synchronized system of effective control of speed coupled with a dual clutch manual transmission.
But to appreciate the new model, now called the Nissan 370Z is only necessary to observe the subtle aesthetics of the rear three quarters. Feature of Z par excellence, with the typical rear window reminiscent of the original 240Z of 1970, a car that revolutionized the world of sports with its unique combination of performance, style and, most importantly, its value, which was accessible to a more passionate about these vehicles but could not access them. The new 370Z maintains this philosophy by offering an accessible performance, manageability, a sport and an athletic and agile design.

“The distinctiveness of the Nissan 370Z is immediately apparent in the new exterior design, sporty, although readily identifiable as a Z”, said Pierre Loing, Vice President of Product Planning, Nissan Europe. “The new 370Z has taken based on the best features of both the first and the last generation of models Z: respectful, but not retro, simple but sophisticated and distinctively Z.”

The new exterior: more athletic, more muscular, 100% Z
The new style of dynamic 370Z 2009 offers dual benefits: a more aggressive, while a leaner and more compact structure to improve performance. The wheelbase of the new Z is about 100 mm shorter than the previous generation of the Z (2550 mm compared with the previous 2650 mm), a reduction has been achieved through the displacement of the rear wheels forward in this second generation of the FM platform, while the total length has been reduced by 70 mm (it has gone from 4320 mm to 4250 mm). At the same time, the total width has been increased by 330 mm, while the wide rear track has grown 55 mm.

More compact external dimensions and increased use of lightweight materials has helped to reduce the weight on the other hand has been strengthened significantly the body structure to improve its rigidity.

In addition to its new structure and its new size, the 370Z has a new line, which despite having an entirely new aspect, it is absolutely Z.

The elegant aspect of the lateral 370Z is marked by the design of the rear window up that harmonizes with the style of the rear wing. The attention to detail and functionality is evident in the exterior design, which includes intermittent lateral part of the Z logo located between the front wheel and the door.

The interior of the 370Z: the driver in the center of the action
The interior design of the new 370Z continues the tradition of the Z models to increase the pleasure of driving in any road condition or traffic. It has also paid special attention to the quality of materials and the adjustment of the finish.

The traditional two-seater layout with a new instrument panel and center console between the seats of the driver and passenger. At the rear there is a luggage area with a higher capacity and better accessibility.

The information panel provides better visibility at the same time and an improved access to the controls. Watches have come together again to the steering column so the driver does not have to choose between the perfect driving position and visibility of the indicators.

The interior layout has also improved from the previous generation, the bar has been eliminated between the two rear wheel (replaced by less intrusive structural reinforcements) and introduced a new space behind the seats, creating an ideal area to store briefcases. Retractable luggage cover comes standard on the 370Z, and also added a lockable glovebox.

3.7 liters engine: the heart and soul of the Z
As its name suggests, the new 370Z is powered by a 3.7 liters of engine VQ37VHR with VVEL (System Variable Valve Lift and Open). Besides its greater displacement, the new engine gives better power delivery from the zone down to the red zone at 7,000 rpm while the torque improvement in the high speed banda. Approximately 35% of the engine components are new compared with the previous one. The power of this car is 336 hp, while its torque is 366 Nm. Engine performance and values are subject to the approval of the final figures.

The new engine can be coupled to two advanced transmissions, both designed to allow the driver to make better performance. The recently revised gearbox with close ratio six-speed manual fitted to the first drive control system synchronized with changing effect of the dual-clutch world, which allows drivers of any skill level and experience a smooth gear changes.

To shift gears, the “SynchroRev Control” automatically adjusts the engine speed to the exact speed of the next place, interrupting the action of the throttle to smooth the action of the gear.

“This exciting new Z represents the essence of the Nissan, as did the 240Z for almost 40 years,” says Loing. “It provides an exciting performance with excellent value, exactly what they are looking for fans of sports cars of today.”
