Confirmed: The Peugeot 308 is delayed

Paul Averame, marketing director of Peugeot Argentina, confirmed that the 308 national-production and scheduled for 2010 – is delayed. Its launch, scheduled for next year, not materialize before 2011. He said in an interview with Cars-Magazine.

Local production of the 308 was a first for Argentina Auto Blog December last year, which in turn was denied by spokesmen for the company to media colleagues. The first signs of delays in the project were published by the daily Clarin last July. And then also denied. This is the first time that Peugeot Argentina confirms that this new model works.

“It is obvious that in 2010 there will be 308 made in Argentina,” said Averame. “It remains to define when, based on the investments made, something that has transcended logic in national newspapers in recent times. We do not have a definite date for the commercial launch of that model, but in any event shall not occur during the next year. “

Averame also reported that the new model will share several structural components with the current 307: “As in Europe, the 308 is planted here as for the group is the N º 2, which is the same as using the 307″.

According to a presentation made to mark its dealer network, the project envisages two types of body: five-door hatchback, like the one offered in Europe, and an unprecedented sedan to be launched soon for the Chinese market.

The idea is that the 308 does not replace the 307, but positioning it higher in price and equipment to compete against the Volkswagen Vento, Ford Focus II and the Renault Fluence which will be manufactured in Cordoba at the end of 2010.

The manager also confirmed that the launch of the brand only scheduled for the remainder of 2009 will be the convertible 308 CC, which will come this summer imported from France.

The brand recently evaluated in the coming months how it will release its schedule for 2010. In folder is the 207th Pick-up, the 207 SW escapade and the restyling of the Partner. Neither has a confirmed release date for the Argentina market.
